Defence budget raised to Rs 627 billion

ISLAMABAD: Despite facing a tight fiscal position, the new PML-N government has jacked up defence spending to Rs 627 billion, an increase of ten percent compared to Rs 570 billion in the outgoing year, ending June 30. The allocations under all heads of the defence budget have been increased. Under the defence services head, allocations for the employees’ related expenses have been jacked up to Rs 271 billion as compared to Rs 250 billion revised allocations in the outgoing fiscal year. The allocation for operating expenses has been increased to Rs 162 billion in budget 2013-14 against Rs 146 billion revised allocation in 2012-13. The allocation for physical assets has been increased to Rs 131 billion against last year’s Rs 120 billion. The civil works allocation have also been increased, with Rs 62 billion earmarked under this head compared to Rs 51 billion in the outgoing financial year. Meanwhile, for internally security, government has allocated Rs 78 billion in the new budget, a raise of nine percent compared to Rs 72 billion in the budget of outgoing financial year. The allocation for police has been increased to Rs 72 billion compared to revised Rs 66 billion in 2012-13 budget. tanveer ahmed tanveer ahmed
