Rs 225 billion set aside to overcome energy crisis
ISLAMABAD: A sum of Rs 225 billion will be invested in the energy sector in the next fiscal year. Of the total amount, Rs 107 billion will come from the PSDP, whereas the remaining amount will be made available by PEPCO and WAPDA with the help of the government, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said while announcing the federal budget for year 2013-14. Dar said one of the highest priorities of the current government was to eliminate energy crisis in the country. He said the PML N government was fully committed to solving energy crisis in the country. Explaining the salient features of the budget, the finance minister said that under the PSDP‚ an allocation of Rs 107 billion has been made for the energy sector. He said WAPDA would invest Rs 118 billion in electricity development projects in addition to Rs 225 billion investment in private sector. According to reports, Rs 25.2 billion have been allocated for construction and acquisition of land for Diamer Bhasha Dam, Rs 25 billion for Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project, Rs 14 billion for Tarbela expansion project, Rs 10 billion for Karachi nuclear energy project and Rs 42 billion for Chashma III and IV projects. kiyya qadir baloch
