Quetta Carnage: 23 killed in terrorist attacks
QUETTA: Terrorists wrecked havoc in Quetta on Saturday conducting multiple attacks and laying siege to the Bolan Medical Complex.
At least 14 female students of the city’s only all women’s university were killed in the first blast. The bomb was planted on a bus meant for taking students back home. Nineteen students were also injured in the blast.
As the victims were shifted to the Bolan Medical Complex, a second blast took place in the emergency ward and several terrorists stormed the complex laying siege to it. Four FC personnel and the city’s deputy commissioner were martyred, while four nurses were also killed. Security forces launched an operation against the terrorists which lasted for four hours. A third blast took place on the second floor of the complex as forces were trying to clear the terrorists. Four terrorists were killed in the operation while a suspected terrorist was taken into custody.
Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar said 35 hostages were freed by the security forces as he hoped the suspected terrorist arrested would provide credible leads to law enforcement agencies. Nisar further said that the two attacks in Quetta were not related. Prior to Nisar speaking to the media outside parliament, the country’s Information Minister Pervez Rasheed spoke to reporters. The information minister said the federal government would provide full support to the provincial government. “All National Security Agencies are assisting the provincial government.” Rasheed ruled out the involvement of a foreign hand in these attacks.
In a pre-dawn attack in the Ziarat area of Balochistan, the residency of Quaid-e-Azam was attacked and destroyed. Presenting his initial investigation report in the National Assembly, Interior Minister Nisar said the attackers had replaced Pakistan’s flag with that of the Balochistan Liberation Army at the residency.
