ANP wants debate on sales tax in Senate
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Awami National Party (ANP) on Friday submitted an adjournment motion in the Senate against the imposition of sales tax in federal budget 2013-14 and increase in petroleum prices.
The adjournment motion was submitted by ANP’s senators Haji Adeel, Zahid Khan, Afrasiab Khattak and Shahi Syed and sought a debate on the issue in the next session of the Upper House of parliament. According to the adjournment motion, the imposition of GST without the parliamentary approval of finance bill was unconstitutional. It stated that the increase in POL prices was a burden on already oppressed people. “This unconstitutional act is disgrace to the sanctity of parliament and needs immediate discussion in the House,” the motion read.
