No dialogue until militants accept govt’s writ: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said that the government would hold dialogue only with those who surrendered and accepted the government’s writ.

Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House, he said that an operation had been completed at Bolan Medical Complex in Quetta, resulting in the killing of four terrorists and arrest of one of their accomplices. The minister said that 14 students died and 19 others suffered injuries when terrorists attacked their bus.

He said that when the injured were brought to Bolan Medical College for treatment, 12 to 14 terrorists who had taken position there, fired upon law enforcement agencies, as a result of which four FC personnel and the deputy commissioner were killed. About attack on Quaid-e-Azam’s Residency in Ziarat, he said an inquiry had already been ordered and its report would be made public. “A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the unfortunate incident.”

The minister said that the historic building suffered extensive damages in five explosions last night. “A joint committee would be formed by the federal and Balochistan governments to assess the damages and prepare recommendations for restoration of the building,” the minister added.

Chaudhry Nisar said that the wooden structure and furniture of the building was completely burnt, but the museum and rare photographs remained intact. To a question, he said the federal government was approaching provinces to provide additional security at all national monuments.

The minister said he had directed the authorities concerned to work out a restoration plan for the Quaid-e-Azam Residency after consulting the Balochistan government.

To another question, Nisar said that all-out resources would be utilised to provide stringent security to the people of Balochistan.

Separately, in the wake of Ziarat Residency incident, Nisar chaired a high-level meeting consisting of senior officers of the Interior Ministry.

For Islamabad, the minister directed the police to enhance security and to remain extra vigilant in the light of the heightened security alerts. He said that police checkposts should be doubly manned to prevent negligence.

The minister issued instructions for launching a massive crack down on criminal elements immediately. The senior officers of police were also directed to inspect checkposts, especially in vantage areas including the Red Zone round the clock.

The minister directed the police in the twin cities to remain in close coordination with each other to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid condemned the terrorist attacks in Quetta and Ziarat and assured the federal government’s cooperation to the provincial government in arresting the culprits.

Talking to the media outside the parliament, he said, “All national security institutions are extending full cooperation and support to the Balochistan government in identifying and arresting the culprits behind the acts of terrorism in Quetta and Ziarat.” agencies
