By Ijaz Kakakhel
ISLAMABAD: The Upper House on Saturday unanimously passed a resolution, strongly condemning the attack on the residence of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Ziarat, Balochistan.
The resolution was moved by Leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq. Speaking on a point of order‚ Saifullah Magsi said the situation of law and order in Balochistan was worsening with each passing day.
He was referring to the attack on the Ziarat Residency and bombing at a women’s university bus in Quetta.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) on Saturday termed the budget 2013-14 “a budged for the elite” which was anti-federation and full of adventurism to weaken provincial autonomy, besides putting unbearable burden on the lower, middle and salaried class. Senator Raza Rabbani of the PPPP initiated a debate on the Financial Bill 2013-14 in Senate, with a warning to PML-N government, especially Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, asked the government to reconsider some of the measures taken in budget.
“Senator Dar is a beautiful friend [and] I’m sure he’ll not take my criticism personally. I criticise the policies of the government... this budget is anti-people,” he added.
He said that the one percent increase in the rate of sales tax from 16 to 17 percent would break the neck of the common man, and added that the taxation measures taken through the finance bill had put tax burden of Rs 168 billion on the general public, due to which the cost of marriages, ghee, oil, cold drinks, cigarettes, electricity, etc, had increased manifold.
The PPP leader lambasted the PML-N government for giving access of people’s bank accounts to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), saying it would mar the interest of people in banks.
