Govt not to retreat from 1 percent increase in sales tax, Dar tells Senate body
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar has said that one percent increase in sales tax would not be withdrawn, Geo News reported.
He told the Senate’s Standing Committee on Finance on Monday that the increase would be applicable from July 1.
The committee meeting was presided over by its chairperson Senator Nasreen Jalil. The participants of the meeting opposed the increase in the sales tax as well as 10 percent raise in the salaries of government employees. They said that the salary increment for the government employees was not sufficient.
The minister told the meeting that the sales tax could be decreased if the government was able to manage taxes up to Rs60 billion through taxes.
