BISP funds should have been used for electricity generation: Justice Chaudhry
ISLAMABAD: During proceedings of the suo mot case against loadhsedding, Justice Ijaz Chaudhry remarked that if the funds from the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) were used for energy generation, those who receive Rs 1,200 could have earned Rs 5,000.
The case is being heard by a three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry. Justice Ijaz Chaudhry asked what could be purchased in Rs 1,200, adding that if the amount from the BISP was used for energy generation, unemployment could have been curtailed.
Chief Justice asked for details on projects which had licenses but were not generating electricity, adding that details should also be provided on how much money was received by companies.
