Olson meets Nisar, discusses peace

ISLAMABAD. US Ambassador Richard Oslon called on Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan in Islamabad, and felicitated him on assumption of the charge of the office of the interior minister and peaceful transition from one civilian government to another in Pakistan.

The minister and the ambassador discussed the issues of mutual interests, including Doha talks that are likely to be held between Afghan Taliban and the US.

The minister welcomed these negotiations and said that the Nawaz-government firmly believed that dialogue and reconciliation were the only way forward in bringing peace to the region.

He said that it was a matter of satisfaction that Pakistan was able to play a role in this process and appreciated US acknowledgement of the same. He hoped that it would eventually lead to peace and stability in the region, especially in Afghanistan. The US ambassador thanked Pakistan for its positive role in forthcoming talks between America and the Afghan Taliban.

The ambassador also assured that all stakeholders would be taken into confidence before any conclusion of the talks. The minister also discussed the stability of the region in post-2014 scenario, when American forces would leave the region and hand over security of Afghanistan to the Afghan forces. The US ambassador assured that the US would continue to work closely with Pakistan to ensure the stability in the region. pr
