Judges detention case: IHC issues verdict of Musharraf's bail
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a written verdict of accepting the bail plea of former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in judges' detention case.
In a verdict issued here on Monday, the court ruled that there is no record available against Pervez Musharraf regarding detention of judges and terrorism.
The seven-page verdict signed by IHC judges Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan and Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi also ruled that the addition of terrorism act's provisions in the case was made on the order of the high court judge.
There only exist lawyers statements that level allegations against Pervez Musharraf, therefore, the same could not be used as evidence.
It could be concluded from the contents of the FIR that the then president of Pakistan had taken unconstitutional steps. However, it could not yet be established whether or not he (Musharraf) issued orders for judges' illegal detention. This remains to be proved, the court order said.
The order further said that the bail could not be rejected only on the basis of his being declared a proclaimed offender. Such a declaration does not strip the accused of all his rights.
