Govt orders ‘thorough investigation’
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday condemned the terrorist attack on foreign climbers in Gilgit-Baltistan as “inhuman and cruel acts” and ordered a thorough investigation, calling for the culprits to be brought to justice, the government said. The shootings, which followed several deadly bombings in different parts of the country in the past week, pose a fresh challenge for the new government of Prime Minister Nawaz, who is battling accusations that his calls for dialogue with insurgents amount to appeasing violent extremists. The prime minister said that such acts of cruelty and inhumanity would not be tolerated and every effort would be made to make Pakistan a safe place for tourists. Expressing his sympathies with the bereaved families, he said that the people and government of Pakistan stood by them in this hour of huge distress. President Asif Ali Zardari also strongly condemned the attack. Expressing his deep shock and sorrow over the unfortunate incident, he urged the authorities concerned to take stern action against the perpetrators. agencies
