Ejazul Haq says WHT on cell phones is ‘Jagga Tax’
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Zia leader and Member of the National Assembly Ejazul Haq has called the imposition of withholding tax (WHT) on mobile phones a “Jagga Tax” (extortion).
Talking to the media outside the Parliament House on Sunday, he said that instead of extending the tax net, the government had started pick pocketing of the public, while big investors and traders were not being brought in the circle of tax.
“The government is already earning billions of rupees by imposing indirect taxes, and now with the implementation of withholding tax, it wants to increase the miseries of people,” he said.
On the issue of terrorism, Ejazul Haq said that a clear national policy should be adopted, in which opinion of all stakeholders should be included.
“Attack on foreign tourists is an attack on the soft image of the country. Although the government criticises terror attacks, it did not follow up the incidents, due to which incidents like these are increasing,” he added. online
