CCTV cameras along roads in red zone not working: IG tells SHC meeting
KARACHI: Provincial police chief Shahid Nadeem Baloch on Thursday informed a meeting at Sindh High Court (SHC) that CCTV cameras installed on roads in Karachi’s red zone area were not working.
SHC chief Justice was presiding over the high-level meeting on security issues of SHC and law and order situation. Chief secretary Sindh Aijaz Chuadhry, Director General Rangers (Sindh) Maj. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar, IG Sindh Shahid Nadeem Baloch, and advocate general of Sindh attended the meeting SHC chief Justice expressed grave concerns over non-functioning of CCTV cameras along roads in red zone area and said that in view of present law and order situation, law enforcement agencies had failed to discharge their responsibilities.
CJ SHC directed provincial government to ensure foolproof security for judges. Chief Justice also directed the law enforcement agencies to make Karachi free of illegal weapons and take action against illegal immigrants.
IG Sindh pointed out that there are Katchi Abadis in the city where there is high-security risk. To which, chief justice said that government should convert these areas into multiple buildings for ensuring rule of law. He also directed chief secretary to ensure that these Katchi abadis are not regularized.
CJ said that coordination between law enforcement agencies was required and they should establish a mechanism by which they could pass on information to each other. He said that station house officers (SHOs) should be appointed for considerable period and they should not be transferred through verbal
orders.
CJ also directed chief secretary to provide GSM locators to the police. In response, chief secretary said that summary for the providing GSM locators to police had been sent to Chief Minister for his consent.
CJ said that there are over 130 convicts on death rows and directed government to ensure for executing on the death sentences.
