SC summons former PM Ashraf on July 16
ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has summoned former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on July 16 over use of discretionary fund, Geo News reported.
Three-member SC, bench headed by chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing the case of use of development funds, worth Rs42 billion, in the tenure of ex-PM Raja Ashraf on Friday.
The apex court ordered Raja Ashraf to appear before the court personally and apprise it over the discretionary funds. The court also issued notices to parliamentarians and the authorities over use of funds from Peoples Works Programme II.
AGPR officials informed the court that PM has power to transfer funds, however, approval of ministries concerned is required, that was ignored.
They said approval was granted for use of funds of national development projects in local development programs.
Attorney General Munir A Malik said he would bring the matter in knowledge of the government on priority basis.
The chief justice directed the AG to issue clear statement on discretionary funds.
