PPP asks govt to drop cases against ex-prime ministers, federal ministers
Wattoo says PPP always practice policy of reconciliation

LAHORE – Pakistan People’s Party Punjab President Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo on Sunday criticized the government of Pakistan Muslim League-N for perpetrating political victimization of the PPP party leaders.
He said that the support for democracy should not be treated as the weakness of the party. He said that the politically motivated cases against former prime ministers and former federal minister should be dropped because politics of victimization was counter-productive and self-defeating and country’s history was testimony to it.
During the previous PPP government’s five years tenure, there was not a single political prisoner in the country, he pointed out. He said that the party completed the tenure while practicing the policy of reconciliation in letter and spirit. He said that the politics of vendetta was a flagrant violation of the democratic practices and therefore should be jettisoned for all times to come.
“The politics of witch hunting had irreparable damages to the federation and to the democracy and it was incumbent upon the political leadership to exhibit statesmanship because the country could not afford the politics of brinkmanship when it was on the cross road of its destiny,” he said.
He said that their whole focus should be building bridges among themselves in order to enable the country to bulwark the challenges of extremism and terrorism those had embroiled the country posing existential threat.
