Pakistan believes in non interference: secretary
Defence secretary supports regional peace, harmony
ISLAMABAD – Defence Secretary Lt Gen (retired) Asif Yasin Malik has said that Pakistan believes in the policy of non-interference and peaceful coexistence with all neighbours.
“Pakistan supports this stance for regional players. Since long Pakistan has suffered greatly at the hands of terror and till date we have laid down an immense price in terms of men and money,” he said after attending the 13th Asia Security Summit in Singapore.
“From our first-hand experience, we believe and promote regional peace and harmony and this remains our principled stand,” the defence secretary said. The International Institute for Strategic Studies has arranged the summit. Ministry of Defence and Defence Production issued a statement here on Wednesday stated that delegates from 27 countries participated in the summit.
On the first day of the summit, bilateral meetings were held between delegates of the countries on important regional challenges and issues. The first session discussed UN contribution to regional stability, advancing military-to-military cooperation, followed by managing strategic tensions. The summit also discussed challenges of maintaining and managing open seas and impact of climate change in Asia Pacific.
On the occasion, Asif Yasin said that Pakistan has its concerns in the region to reach the goal of peace and they were shared with the regional and international community and appraised about. All countries participating in the summit acknowledged the role of Pakistan in the region and also the significance of Pakistan as an international player post 2014.
“Pakistan has the most diverse terrain which can be and must be developed to see Pakistan utilize its full potential. The summit proved fruitful in developing and furthering the understanding between the region’s important players,” according to the statement said.
