Pak granted consular access to Altaf Hussain

LONDON: Pakistan has been granted consular access to Altaf Hussain and acting Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Mirza met the MQM chief at the private hospital were he is being treated.

Mirza informed reporters that Altaf Hussain was in high spirits and was being provided the best medical facilities at the hospital.


Mirza said Altaf Hussain seemed confident during their meeting and thanked the Pakistani government for its support. The MQM chief also thanked the Pakistani people for their support during this entire ordeal.

According to Mirza the MQM chief did not seek any legal support during the meeting.


The government of Pakistan has also decided to issue a passport and identity card to Altaf Hussain. The government’s decision was announced by Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid.

Altaf Hussain is currently in police custody at a private hospital after he was arrested for suspicion of money laundering from his North London home on Tuesday. The MQM chief has undergone several medical tests and an angiography procedure will take place today (Thursday).

Governor Sindh speaks to Altaf Hussain

Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad spoke to MQM chief Altaf Hussain on the telephone.

During their conversation Ebad inquired about Altaf Hussain’s health and conveyed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s well wishes.

Governor Sindh also informed the MQM chief about the emotions of people and MQM workers.
