Four soldiers killed in cross-border attack
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday said two of its border posts came under cross-border attack, leaving four Pakistani soldiers dead.
One military source said four soldiers were also wounded.
The Foreign Office said that two Pakistani border posts - Manozangal and Moukha tops in Bajaur Agency - were attacked by terrorists from across Afghanistan early in the morning. “Four Pakistani soldiers were martyred due to the unprovoked firing.”
The FO said the matter has been raised with the Afghan government in Kabul and its embassy in Islamabad. “It has been emphasised that Afghanistan must take concrete steps to stop the use of its territory against Pakistan. For its part, Pakistan remains committed to supporting all efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.”
Political Agent Bajaur Agency Syed Jabbar Shah said the attacks created an environment of fear and panic in the area. “The security situation has turned volatile in Bajaur and we had to impose a round-the-clock curfew because we stand short of options to manage the security situation,” he told Daily Times by phone. “This cross-border terrorism from across the border needs to be stopped before things get out of control. In last few days, such cross-border attacks have taken place but foiled by our security forces.”
