Imran shows concern over ‘wave of fear’ gripping Karachi

ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan has expressed concern over situation prevailing in Karachi and other parts of Sindh Province after the arrest of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain in London on Tuesday. Imran said that he fully understood the anguish of MQM workers at this difficult time but asserted that it was absolutely unjustified for the MQM to bring Karachi to a standstill and disrupt the lives of the people of port city when it were the UK authorities that have taken action against one of their own citizens on money-laundering charges. The PTI chairman said that law would take its course in the United Kingdom now and that MQM workers needed to show patience and not punish the people of Pakistan for the action taken by the UK police. He also condemned acts of violence by angry MQM workers on Tuesday and expressed concern over wave of fear that was gripping the city of Karachi. Khan said that though MQM has claimed that this agitation was voluntary, everyone knew that ground reality was opposite to it. “This is unacceptable blackmail of a whole city for action taken by the British government against one of its citizens,” he added. Imran also expressed surprise at the policy of the PPP – the party that govern Sindh Province – and said that instead of ensuring the safety of citizens of Karachi, it was joining the MQM protest. He said that if protest has to be held against the arrest of MQM leader; it should be held in the United Kingdom and not in Pakistan.
