Police directed to beef up security of Parliament House
NA deputy speaker orders police not to allow protestors to cross Red Zone

ISLAMABAD – National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi has directed the Ministry of Interior Affairs to ensure foolproof security of the Parliament House and observed that the Islamabad Police has failed to stop the intrusion of protestors on four different occasions in the premises of the Parliament House.
He was chairing a meeting of the Standing Committee on the House and Library in the Parliament House here on Thursday. The deputy speaker said that there was no resistance from the police personnel to stop the protestors to break into the precincts of the Parliament House. He termed it sheer negligence of the Islamabad Police whereby sanctity of the parliament was compromised.
Abbasi directed the Islamabad Police to strictly implement zero tolerance policy of the ministry in terms of protests in the Red Zone and no one should be allowed to cross the threshold. He also directed the ministry to submit reports of incidents happened earlier and earmark space for protests in future.
The additional secretary of the Interior Ministry and Chief Commissioner admitted the failure of the police on May 23 incident. The chief commissioner apprised the committee that seven police personnel have been suspended on the preliminary investigation report and action against other negligent officers would be taken on conclusion of the judicial inquiry.
The additional secretary informed the committee that the ministry was committed to make the security of Islamabad specially the Red Zone, impeccable by deployment of extra police personnel, intensifying surveillance by the security agencies and installation of extra surveillance cameras. The meeting was attended by MNAs Maulana Qamar ud Din, Dr Ibadullah and Shahida Rehmani, senior officers of the ministries and the district administration.
