World Accreditation Day : President for making products, services reliable

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has stressed stakeholders to join hands with Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) for making Pakistani products and services more reliable and trustworthy, besides ensuring consumers’ confidence.
In his message on the World Accreditation Day, being observed on June 9, the president said that he was pleased to learn that Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC), a national apex body on accreditation, was celebrating this day.
“I am confident that the observance of this day would further highlight the importance of accreditation process towards ensuring provision of quality products and services and thus ensuring consumers’ confidence,” he added.
He said the theme for this year “Accreditation: Delivering Confidence in the Provision of Energy” is the most appropriate keeping in view the ever-increasing demand for energy and the important role it played in the socio-economic development of societies.
“Pakistan is facing acute energy shortages due to ever increasing demand. Simultaneously, there is pressure on industry to cut emissions and to introduce energy efficiency measures. Since the generation, storage and distribution of energy involves complex supply chains and processes, often concerning cross-border trade and distribution of volatile substances, therefore the need for ensuring conformity to internationally recognized standards becomes even more pressing,” he observed.
The president said that the commercial development of alternative renewable sources of energy needed to demonstrate value in terms of cost, reliability, durability and performance and being environment friendly.
The president said it is indeed an opportunity for all the stakeholders to join hands with the PNAC, to benefit from its accreditation services and make Pakistani products and services reliable and trustworthy not only within the country but also in the international market.
He said accreditation provides assurance and guarantee in the competence and integrity of conformity assessment bodies responsible to ensure implementation of all the required standards, regulations and other government’s policies.
It is highly important that the consumers get assurance in respect of the safety, security of the goods and services they utilize, he said, adding this confidence can only be gained through the application of management systems supported by credible testing and inspections.
“It is heartening to note that we have an internationally-recognized infrastructure of accreditation in the shape of Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC). PNAC has achieved Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) from Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC),” he added.
It has also recently achieved Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) from Pacific Accreditation Forum (PAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF).
