‘Globalisation affecting social values of small regions’

ISLAMABAD: Globalisation is engulfing the civilisations of the world in general and the social values of the small regions of in particular. These were the conclusive findings of the first day proceedings of three days International Writers Conference of the Afro-Asian Writers Union (AAWU) Pakistan Chapter is organising in collaboration with Strengthening Participatory Organizations (SPO).
The three-day literary Conference with major theme “Designs of Global Cultural Hegemony and Writers Role in Defense of Heritage, Culture and Peace” attended by national and international writers, scholars and intellectuals. The African Asian Writers Union was established in 1956 and our iconic poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz was one of its Founding Members along-with the Nobel Laureate Chilean writer Pablo Neruda and other luminaries. Faiz Ahmad Faiz was also the Founding Editor of the Union’s premier publication ‘Lotus’ and remained at the position till his return to Pakistan from Beirut, Lebanon.
Dr Helmi Al Hadidi (Egypt), President of the Afro Asian Peoples Solidarity Organization (AAPSO) while Dr. Ali Javed (India), Chairman and Mr. Mohammad Salmawy (Egypt), Secretary General of the AAWU adders the Conference. Prominent writers, poets and intellectuals from Egypt, India, Russia, Vietnam, Nepal, China and Pakistan besides local writers also attend the conference. In Third Session Group Discussions delegates discussed on topics Group-1 (Defining and Evaluation of Threats from the Designs of Global Cultural Hegemony), Group-2 (Writers Responsibility and Possible Role in Defence of Heritage), Group-3 (Writers Responsibility and Possible Role in Defence of Cultural Values) Group-4 (Writers Responsibility and Possible Role in Defence of Peace).
The activities of the second day of the conference are open sessions for all invitees including delegates and other dignitaries. The First Session will start as Sheraz Latif Chairman; Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) will welcome the participants of the Conference. Welcome Address by Dr. Najeeb Jamal and Naseer Memon, Opening Address by Dr. Tashmirza Khalmirzaev, Key Note Address by Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa, Brief Speeches by Fakhar Zaman, Salim Raz, Tahir Zaland, Khawar Mumtaz, Dr Sukhdev Singh, Mohammad Salmawy, Kishwar Naheed, Dr. Helmi Al Hadidi, Speech by Chief Guest Perwaz Rashid, Concluding Remarks by Dr. Ali Javed, and Agha Nasir.
In the Second Session Sufi Kalam on Multi Media Presentation by Prof Umaima Kamran “Effects of English Language Hegemony on Pakistani Languages” Brief Speeches by Yug Pathak, Harjinder Pal, Chaudhry Sarwar, Dr Mazhar Haider, Saadullah Mewand, Dr Raees Alvi, Dr Qasim Bughio, Dr Jafar Ahmed, Muslim Shamim, Yousaf Hasan, concluding Remarks by Muhammad Salmawy, Vote Of Thanks by Arshad Mehmood President PWA Islamabad. Dr Helmi Al Hadidi (Egypt), President of the Afro Asian Peoples Solidarity Organization (AAPSO) will inaugurate the conference today.
