PM, Karzai discuss border security issues

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday telephoned outgoing Afghan president, Hamid Karzai.
The two leaders discussed security issues concerning the steps taken by both sides at their respective sides of Pak-Afghan border in the wake of operation Zarb-e-Azb launched by Pakistan Army against the terrorists in North Waziristan Agency (NWA). The security arrangements for the final phase of the Afghan presidential election starting next week were also discussed. Afghanistan has assured Pakistan its full support for enhanced border surveillance in the military operation, while Islamabad has assured Kabul complete cooperation in the final round of Afghan presidential poll.
The two-day visit to Afghanistan of Pakistani MNA Mahmood Khan Achakzai was also discussed in Sharif-Karzai telephonic conversation. Achakzai visited Afghanistan on 17-18 June as special envoy of the prime minister to seek Afghanistan’s support in eliminating terrorism.
