NA unanimously pays tributes to Benazir
Lawmakers urge Punjab govt to arrest, punish killers of MNA Tahira Asif

ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution unanimously paying tributes to former prime minister Benazir Bhutto for offering meritorious services to Pakistan.
The resolution was moved by Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir Hussain. “The House recognises this day as the birthday of Shaheed Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and on this day, pays homage to her indomitable courage and will to fight against extremism and tyranny, while upholding the ideals and values of democracy, moderation and tolerance; recalls her words,” it said.
“The forces of moderation and democracy must and will prevail against extremism and dictatorship. It will not be intimated; salutes her single-minded determination to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and pays tribute to her incomparable services for a democratic Pakistan for which she ultimately lay down her life.”
Benazir Bhutto – June 21, 1953 – December 27, 2007 – was the 11th prime minister of Pakistan, serving two non-consecutive terms in 1988–1990 and then 1993–96. A scion of the politically powerful Bhutto family, she was the eldest daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a former prime minister himself who founded the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Benazir was assassinated in a suicide bombing in 2007 in Rawalpindi, two weeks before the scheduled 2008 general election.
In another resolution adopted unanimously, the lawmakers strongly condemned the murder of MNA Tahira Asif in Lahore and urged the Punjab government to arrest and punish the culprits as soon as possible. “This House strongly condemns unanimously the dastardly fatal attack with fire arms on prominent, active and energetic lady parliamentarian Mrs Tahira Asif belonging to Mutthida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on June 18 in broad day light whereby she expired on June 20 during her medical treatment in Lahore.”
Yet in another motion moved by Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid, the House unanimously allowed that the questions and other business suspended due to the budget session may not lapse (be taken up in next sessions). The minister moved another resolution seeking the consent of the House about the appointment of MNAs Shaista Pervaiz, Dr Nafeesa Shah and Ishtiaq Mehr as members of Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
The House adopted another resolution allowing the extension in Federal Judicial Academy (Amendment) Ordinance 2014 to other 120 days. The resolution said, "The National Assembly resolves to extend the Federal Judicial Academy (Amendment) Ordinance, 2014 (Ord No V of 2014) for a further period of one hundred and twenty days w.e.f August 8, 2014 under the proviso to sub-paragraph (ii) of paragraph (a) of clause (2) of Article 89 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan."
