* Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Principal Secretary to CM Dr Tauqeer Shah removed over killing of over a dozen supporters of Dr Tahirul Qadri in Model Town clash
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Friday that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has been asked to tender his resignation over the Lahore incident, in which over a dozen supporters of Tahirul Qadri were killed.
Similarly, it has been decided to remove Principal Secretary to CM Dr Tauqir Shah. Shahbaz Sharif said that Rana Sanaullah is his close friend and he has rendered invaluable services for the PML-N. He said that when there was martial law in the country, Rana Sanaullah was in jail. Similarly, Dr Tauqir Shah “is like his younger brother” and he is performing his duty honestly and devotedly for the last 15 years, he added.
The chief minister said that he is still grieved at the tragic incident that occurred in Lahore. He said that in order to meet the demands of justice, a judicial commission has been formed so that people could know the facts. He said that he is accountable to God and the masses, therefore, he has decided to take some other measures to fulfill the demands of justice. He said that the case registered against the sons of Tahirul Qadri was withdrawn the same night. He said that with the blessings of God, he survived a deadly disease like cancer and returned to the country and started serving the masses.
Shahbaz said that his six years’ tenure as Khadim-e-Punjab is before the people. He said that he is the person who served the victims round the clock during flood and other natural calamities. He said that he always helped the oppressed whether cruelty was committed with girls in Sahiwal or in Muzaffargarh and spared no effort to take to task the powerful and cruel people according to the law and the constitution. The chief minister said that those doing the politics of dead bodies level allegations against him that “God forbid he is involved in the death of innocent citizens”.
The chief minister said that when 42 people were killed in Karachi in 2007, “those shedding crocodile tears and Shaikh-e-Haram were celebrating with those waving a fist in Islamabad”. He asked where were those at that time who are now talking about justice and demanding resignations. Shahbaz Sharif said that his past is witness to the fact that he never compromised on justice and reiterated that he will not rest content till justice is ensured in the incident of Lahore. He said that orders have been issued for immediate arrest of those who opened fire on innocent citizens and all out steps will be taken to uphold the demands of justice. He said that he will not compromise nor allow any hindrance in the way of justice.
While addressing a crowded emergent press conference, on Friday, Shahbaz Sharif said that day was very unfortunate for him when he put behind the bar his own son-in-law with handcuffs. He said that he is not praising himself but giving an example so that no one should raise finger against him and those criticising him should know about his character. Shahbaz Sharif said he wants that only doing justice is not enough but it should be seen as well. He said that tough decisions have been taken to fulfill the demands of justice.
The chief minister said that tough decisions have to be taken for upholding law and justice as he considers himself answerable to God, people and the history. Shahbaz Sharif said that he has full confidence in high court and if anyone is not satisfied with the judicial commission, he can submit an application in the Supreme Court for change of judicial commission. He said that if Supreme Court takes suo motu notice of this incident, even then he has no objection. Replying to questions of journalists, the chief minister said that he is not taking defensive position and he has no concern with the demands of “Shaikh-e-Haram”. Shahbaz Sharif said that he has to provide justice to the oppressed and he is ready to go to any extent for this purpose.
He said that when the country was facing difficult situation “and I was going to every nook and corner of Punjab including Rahimyar Khan, DG Khan and Muzaffargarh to help the people facing problems and those enjoying cool breeze and on recreational foreign trips were saying that he was doing jugglery”. The chief minister said that by the grace of God the south Punjab gave PML-N the biggest mandate of the history of the country which is a proof of the fact that God does not waste service and hard work of any one.
Replying to another question, Shahbaz Sharif said that we decided to send a delegation comprising ministers to Minhajul Quran for expressing condolences but they refused to meet with our delegation. The chief minister said that he is Khadim of the people and he is deeply shocked over the loss of precious human lives. If Minhajul Quran authorities permit, he is ready to go there for offering Fateha. He said that people of Punjab are like his family members and those who died in this tragic incident were his own people and he fully realises the grief of the heirs of the deceased.
He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, federal and Punjab governments and the entire nation equally share the grief of the bereaved families. Replying to a question, Shahbaz Sharif said that maintenance of law and order is the responsibility of the government and we will discharge this responsibility efficiently. He said that there is not even a single scam of corruption against him, Punjab government and federal government during last one year and nor any one has leveled allegation of corruption against prime minister or his ministers.
The chief minister said that Nandipur Power Project was completed within a record period of seven months and Chinese have also termed it a miracle. He said that those enjoying cool breeze in Europe and other countries do not know the sufferings of poor people of Pakistan. Shahbaz said that those people are not aware of the miseries of poor people of Balochistan, KP, Sindh and Punjab. Shahbaz Sharif said that unprecedented programmes have been started for reducing the problems of the poor people. He said that creating hindrances in the programme of development is neither a national service nor this is a revolution and the nation will never allow it. He said that if friendly country like China is helping us to overcome energy crisis and resolve problems of the country, then we should not reject it.
