Model Town incident part of ‘London Plan’: PML-N

ISLAMABAD: Chief Coordinator of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Siddiqul Farooq on Sunday said killing of 12 people in Model Town Lahore was part of the ‘Qadri-Chaudhry London Plan’, which was implemented through Minhajul Quran’s armed workers and some loyalists of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Punjab police.
He said the London Plan was finalised in a series of meetings between Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi. Under the plan, homecoming of Tahirul Qadri was advanced to June 23 from July to derail the present democratic government by counting on the ‘blood of some workers’, he said while addressing a press conference here at PML-N Secretariat.
He said the conspirators took advantage of the action to remove illegal barriers outside the Minhajul Quran offices according to the plan, which was hatched to disrupt and sabotage the development process currently underway in the country.
Farooq said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had set up a judicial commission to probe the Model Town incident and expose this conspiracy. He hoped that the commission would lay bare the actual facts before the nation.
Replying to a question, he claimed that due to fear of getting exposed both Qadri and Chaudhrys had boycotted the judicial commission. He recalled that in 1990 Tahirul Qadri had staged a drama on his house, which was exposed by a judicial inquiry.
Tahirul Qadri himself did not meet the criteria set out in articles 62 and 63 of the constitution as he was declared a ‘liar and actor with penchant for fame’ by a high court judge in his inquiry report of the incident, he added.
Siddiqul Farooq asked in which capacity and under which law Tahirul Qadri could call for security forces to take over Benazir Bhutto Airport and Model Town upon his homecoming.
“Why has Minhajul Quran administration not provided footage of CCTV cameras to the judicial commission so far?” he said. He questioned using Minhajul Quran, a non-political organisation, for forwarding political agenda and asked whether it was not a crime.
The PML-N leader put forward the following questions for investigation to unearth the real facts behind the Model Town tragedy:
Who fired from the roof of Minhajul Quran building?
Who supplied sticks and bricks to workers and students of Minhajul Quran
Why did Tahirul Qadri send a message on Twitter to his workers to lay down lives, at 6:30 am? Was it not aimed at instigating the workers to attack police?
Why has Minhahjul Quran administration not provided the CCTV footage to the tribunal?
Is it not a crime to use Minhajul Quran for political purposes?
In what capacity and under which law Tahirul Qadri called for armed forces to take over Benazir Bhutto International Airport and Model Town on his arrival in the country?
Explaining difference between democracy and dictatorship, Siddiqul Farooq said dictator Pervez Musharraf did not carry out any judicial inquiry into the killing of 50 innocent citizens and setting ablaze of six chambers of lawyers in Karachi on May 12, 2007. The dictator had termed it a ‘show of government force’ while raising his fists. Chaudhry brothers were the main characters of this incident and Tahirul Qadri kept silent on the issue, he added. On the contrary in a democratic era, a judicial commission has been set up to ascertain the facts of the incident, he said. Even the chief minister of Punjab has announced to appear before the commission if called, he added.
The PML-N leader said that Dr Qadri wanted to run the affairs of Pakistan just like his ‘domain’ while residing in Canada and pretending to have support of some institutions. He said Pakistan was not a country without support and patronage as 200 million people and elected federal and provincial governments were its real guardians.
He said Dr Qadri’s so-called ‘dreams’ also needed a thorough study.
To a question, he said that then chief minister Manzoor Wattoo had bulldozed the security fence around the Nawaz Sharif’s residence of Model Town in 1994 while Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and their late father Muhammad Sharif restrained the party workers from any retaliatory action.
