Flight operation resumes at Peshawar airport, case registered


PESHAWAR: The flight operation resumed at the Peshawar airport which was suspended after a passenger flight of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) came under attack on Tuesday night.

The airport sources told that a private airline’s flight has landed at the Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar after the resumption of operations. The flight that arrived from Abu Dhabi was carrying 160 passengers.

Furthermore, a case was also registered against the unknown persons in the Budh Bair police station following the attack.

Sources also added that the search operation initiated to catch suspected persons was also concluded in Mashu Khel and Suleman Khel areas while all the entry points have re-opened after remaining sealed during the operation.

It is pertinent to mention that a woman was killed and two flight stewards were wounded when a passenger flight of PIA came under attack while landing at the Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar on Tuesday night.

The woman passenger, who is said to be a foreigner, died of wounds en route to the Combined Military Hospital in Peshawar Cantonment, reports said. Sources said the PIA flight from Riyadh (No PK-756) was about to land in Peshawar when unidentified attackers opened fire on the aircraft. The bullets hit a woman and two stewards.

The attack was the first of its kind. There were a number of attacks on the airport in the past but it was for the first time that an aircraft was hit and its passengers were wounded. A search operation was launched in the Pishtakhara and Sarband areas after the attack while more security personnel were deployed around the airport and the airbase. While landing in Peshawar, all aircraft come close to the tribal areas and the nearby settled towns.
