Country can’t afford confrontation: PM

LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that the country cannot afford confrontation and violence at this critical juncture. Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar called on the prime minister and briefed him about his meeting with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri in Lahore on Monday. The governor conveyed to the prime minister the demands of Dr Qadri. The prime minister said the country cannot afford confrontation and violence at this stage. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government believes in political dialogue to resolve issues. Nawaz said the government intends to end the crises in the country and set it on the path of development. He said economic development of the country was the main objective of the government which will be achieved come what may. He said democracy will be strengthened and the country will be made prosperous. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reportedly assigned Punjab governor a special task to negotiate with Dr Qadri. Sarwar met with PAT at his residence in Model Town on Tuesday and assured that government will release all of his workers. He told Qadri that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the payment of financial compensation to families of the workers killed in the tragic incident in Lahore.
