Government releases Rs 500 million for North Waziristan IDPs
*Some 36,831 displaced families having 456,508 individuals including 120,110 men, 143,996 women and 192,442 children registered so far* Every family to get Rs 12,000

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired a high profile meeting regarding internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Prime Minister’s House and ordered the release of Rs 500 million for the IDPs assistance.
Minister for State and Frontier Regions Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed, Director General Military Operations (MO) and DG ISPR also attended the meeting. SAFRON Minister and DG MO briefed the prime minister about the present situation of the IDPs. Prime Minister Nawaz directed the officials to facilitate the IDPs in every respect. “The government is with the IDPs in these hard times and they will be taken care of,” prime minister said.
The federal minister told the prime minister that government financial assistance is being provided to the IDPs of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) and so far Rs 19.224 million have been disbursed among 1,602 IDP families. “Each family had been given Rs 12,000,” he said, adding that some 36,831 dislocated families, comprising 456,508 individuals, including 120,110 males, 143,996 females and 192,442 children, had been registered so far.
The minister said cash was being given to every IDP family for purchase of food after complete verification by the scrutiny committee comprising representatives of NADRA, security forces, FDMA, PDMA and SAFRON Ministry at the established centres. He said the camps for IDPs were established by the FDMA with the assistance of line departments, wherein all facilities like shelter, cooked food, water and other allied services were being provided.
He said electricity has also been provided to the Bakakhel IDP camp. He told the meeting that registration centres have also been set up in Bannu, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan and Lakki Marwat to facilitate the displaced persons. He said that washrooms, shades and clean drinking water facility has been ensured in the camps. “Some 20 water tanks are providing relief to the IDPs,” he added. The minister said food boxes with dates, juices, biscuits, mineral water bottles, etc, were also being provided to the IDPs on regular basis.
He said that checkpost registration points, 30 desks for registration, information and guidance of dislocated people have been set up where all basic necessities of life are available. He said electric fans were also provided in the camps besides hand water coolers and hand fans.
