Revolution can come only through elections: Nawaz
* PM says future of country associated with democracy g Army, with support of whole nation, will win ‘decisive battle’ against terrorists
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that revolution in Pakistan will come only through elections, while the future of the country is associated with democracy only.
Talking to a delegation of the Pakistan Bar Council, which was headed by Vice Chairman M Ramzan Chaudhry, the prime minister said, “Law bars of Pakistan are significant pillars of judicial process which play important role in provision of speedy and inexpensive justice to the weaker and vulnerable sections of society.” Prime Minister Nawaz highlighted the importance of the operation Zarb-e-Azab, and said, “We entered in the process of negotiations to resolve the issue, but the terrorists made our each effort futile. Now the whole nation stands united behind the Pakistan Army and we will, God willing, come out victorious in this decisive battle against the terrorists”.
While discussing the developmental and economic issues with the delegation, the prime minister said, “We will successfully tackle the issue of load shedding in our tenure. Our government has embarked on unprecedented developmental projects which will reduce poverty and create millions of jobs opportunities in the country.” He added that “it is time that the whole nation stand united for the help of IDPs. So that we collectively come out of the menace of terrorism to make Pakistan stands in line of progressive nations”.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that his government has a development agenda for Pakistan, and all the political forces should join hands with his government to achieve this agenda. “Our vision is to place Pakistan amongst the developed nations of the world,” the prime minister said while addressing the launching ceremony of interest-free loan scheme at the PM Office. He said that his government’s development agenda is also evident from its past tenures when it initiated motorways. “Ghazi Barotha was also our government’s initiative,” he added. “Had our agenda of development been continued, Pakistan would have been far ahead in the communication and infrastructure sectors.”
“I performed the ground-breaking of 4,320MW Dasu Hydropower Project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa yesterday which would be the largest power project in Pakistan in terms of its power generation,” Nawaz said. “We also plan to construct 4,500 MW Diamer-Bhasha Dam,” added the PM. He said his government plans not only to increase the power generation but also to cut down the cost of electricity to provide affordable power to the consumers.
Prime Minister Nawaz said that the power generation sector has been neglected by the former governments due to which a “nuclear power country” has reached a stage where it faces electricity shortage. He noted that imports and exports and all economic indicators have been at the lowest ebb. “Ten dams should have been constructed till now in Pakistan to cater to the increasing demand of electricity.” Nawaz observed. “The agenda of successive governments should have been economic development to revitalise Pakistan’s economy, but it was not so. Had they focused on it, there would have been no poverty, deprivation and backwardness,” the premier said.
Prime Minister Nawaz said that his government wants to serve the people of Pakistan irrespective of political affiliations. “We have launched Business Loan Scheme, Fee Reimbursement Scheme and Skill Development Programme for the youth of our country and there is no discrimination amongst the beneficiaries based on their association, relationship, or attachment to any person or party, their only qualification is eligibility and merit,” he said.
“The Qarz-e-Hasana Scheme launched today is based on the principles of transparency and merit. The scheme is being managed by Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, an independent organisation, and 250,000 persons will get loan each year reaching a total of one million within four years, while Rs 3.5 billion have been earmarked for this year,” Nawaz said. He said the loan amount would be up to Rs 50,000 keeping in view the needs of the person, and there is no markup on the loan. Nawaz said 50 percent of the loan would be for the female population of the country. The prime minister said that the youth development schemes were his party’s election mandate “and we have today fulfilled another promise made with our electorate. I wish we had enough resources to give such loans to all such skilled and needy people”.
