ECP dismisses Imran, Khattak’s claims of LG polls irregularities in KP

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa Pervez Khattak’s claims regarding irregularities in recently held local bodies elections in the province.

In a statement issued here, the electoral body said that the KP government had expressed their desire of conducting the LG polls at both district and tehsil level on the same day.

“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s stance on conducting the elections in one day is on record,” said the statement.

The ECP spokesman in the statement went on to say that all institutions and departmenta should have played their roles in ensuring peace on the polling day.

“The provincial government must stop putting its own responsibilities on others”.

Earlier in the day, PTI chief Imran Khan said that it was the responsibility of the ECP to ensure transparency while conducting the LG elections.

Speaking to the media after his appearance before the Judicial Commission, Khan said the Election Commission had not done its homework, while even police was provided for their assistance.
