PTI accused of massive rigging in KP LG polls
*ANP, JUI-F refuse to accept election results *Wali says slow pace of results reflects malafide intention of PTI government
PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali Khan on Sunday accused the PTI of massive rigging in local government (LG) elections and said they would not accept the results.
Talking to a private TV channel, the ANP leader said that a basis has been laid by PTI for rigging in election and pointed that even a coalition partner of the provincial government has admitted the rigging.
He said after these allegations, there is no legal and constitutional basis for the local government elections. He said it is surprising that if rigging takes place in Punjab, the caretaker government and a political party is held responsible but when it happens in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the entire blame is put on the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The ANP president took strong exception to the slow pace of results and said it reflects the mala fide intention of the provincial government. He also alleged that the rigging was done by the PTI with the help of Police and the ANP would not accept the results.
He said the Jamaat-e-Islami, a coalition partner in KP, has also conceded that there was rigging.
JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman also accused the PTI of breaking all the records of rigging and said his party would not accept the results.
Strongly reacting over the local bodies elections results, Fazl said that the whole election process has been opened to question in KP at the hands of those who were demanding opening of bags of 2013 general elections.
The cleric said every citizen of the country is witness to excesses committed by PTI workers with the connivance of KP police. He said the PTI workers raided polling stations and took away the ballot boxes. He also criticised the mismanagement during polling by pointing out that at a number of places, polling staff was not present while at several others the election symbols of candidates were missing.
He said the partisanship shown by the police during elections was enough to expose the real face of PTI. He held PTI responsible for violence at such a large scale during LG elections. The cleric also complained that police misbehaved with women at several polling stations and said that in such a scenario, how they could accept the election results.
