QUETTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday urged the nation to stand united and foil the attempts of the enemies to create divisions on ethnic, provincial, linguistic and sectarian grounds.
Chairing a meeting of political leaders here at the Governor’s House during his day-long visit to the provincial metropolis, the prime minister said that the people of Pakistan now understand who was behind it. He said there were elements that do not like to see progress and development in the country.
The prime minister termed the Mastung incident tragic and expressed the resolve that justice would be done. He also appreciated the local leaders who handled the matter with political acumen.
He said the enemy of the country wanted to create divisions in the country on ethnic, provincial, linguistic, sectarian and religious lines so as to create dissent. “However we must not forget that we are Pakistanis first and being Pakistani we cannot allow any such divisions to seep in,” he said.
Nawaz said not only there were local elements that were trying to create dissent, but there were also foreign ones that wanted to create instability in the country. He said the people of Balochistan have once again proved that they stand above personal losses and gains when it comes to the national unity and cause.
The prime minister said the overall law and order situation in the country has improved significantly. He, however, noted that there was still room for further improvement.
Nawaz said that Quetta would soon have its peace and tranquillity back and the miscreants would be wiped out. He said not only the situation in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan but also rest of the country would significantly improve.
The prime minister said that Pakistan suffered massive economic losses to the tune of 110 billion US dollars at the hands of extremists and terrorists. He said that Pakistan was paying a heavy price in its fight against terrorism and would rid the country of this menace at all costs. He said the terrorists have started to flee from their hideouts and sanctuaries and their network has been busted. He said the perpetrators of the Mastung incident would not be spared and will have to pay a heavy price.
The provincial and national political leaders attending the meeting unanimously agreed to pass a resolution against the Mastung tragedy.
The conference participants condemned the incident of Mastung and expressed condolences and sympathies with the families of victims. It was agreed that the Mastung incident was a national tragedy similar to those at Peshawar and Safora, Karachi, that pained the entire nation. The conference participants strongly condemned the cowardly act and expressed the resolve to take all steps to do justice and to take to task those responsible.
The conference participants reviewed the law and order situation in Balochistan and presented several suggestions for its improvement.
There was a unanimous agreement that anti-state forces were destabilising Balochistan, on the behest of their foreign masters. However it was reiterated that all acts of terrorism and foreign conspiracies would be foiled at all costs.
The conference participants were of the unanimous view that the Gwadar-Kashgar economic trade route was an eye sore for the enemies of Pakistan and they were trying to sabotage it.
The participants agreed that the Mastung tragedy was a conspiracy to develop enmity among the brotherly tribes living together in Balochistan for centuries. The people of the province deserve tribute for foiling such conspiracies with the help of their mutual unity and harmony.
The participants of the conference appreciated the maturity of the province’s political leadership and expressed satisfaction over the provincial leadership’s efforts for foiling the heinous designs for creating rift among different tribes of the province, with the support extended by the people and particularly by the relatives of the martyrs.
The conference expressed satisfaction over the fact that the political and military leadership is on same page on eradication of terrorism from the country and there is a complete consensus of views on the elimination of terrorists.
