‘MQM to shut down Karachi if water crisis not resolved’
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Haider Abbas Rizvi on Saturday said the negligence of authorities in connection with the basic needs of the citizens can be gauged from the fact that now they are demanding only a few drops of potable water.
Addressing a public rally held to protest against ongoing water crisis in the city, the MQM leader said the Karachiites have to beg before the rulers for water, complaining the development projects were in progress across the country except Karachi.
“Only one project was mentioned for Karachi in the federal budget”, he said, adding the Karachiites are actually the ones with major contribution in the pool of national resources.
He also called upon the ‘rulers’ to dismantle quota system, asking the government to immediately hold Local Government (LG) polls in the Sindh province.
“We want such a LG system in which authority and power lies with nazims and councilors”, Rizvi demanded.
Another MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui warned the Sindh government that in case it fails to provide water to the people of Karachi they will be forced to sever water lines of Sindh Chief Minister house.
“This is the last time ‘Haq-Parast’ have taken to street to raise voice for their legitimate rights and if denied they will shut-down the city for as long as needed”, Siddiqui said.
He also accused Qaim Ali Shah of ‘scraping’ water supply projects for the Karachi city.
