PM strictly advised to limit power outages during Ramadan: Sher Ali

FAISALABAD – State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Saturday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had strictly advised him to limit power outages during the month of Ramadan.
He expressed these views while talking to the media persons at Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) office. He said the Power Ministry would strive to provide at least 70 per cent to 80 per cent power at Sehar and Iftar timings, adding that, however, outages could not be ended altogether. He said durations of power outages had lessened in his tenure as six-hour long outages were carried out in urban areas, while eight-hour long in rural.
However, he said areas with heavy line losses were bearing at least 18-hour long power cut. He vowed to end electricity crisis by the end of 2017. While talking about the ongoing alleged rigging case in the inquiry commission, Abid Sher Ali said a contempt of court case should be filed against PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan as he failed to prove the allegations.
Khan failed to prove supremacy of merit and democracy in the local body (LB) elections 2015 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and thus he should resign, he added. The minister also commented on tensions with India in the past days. He said the neighbouring country was the most disturbed of all others over China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He warned that Pakistan was a nuclear state, and Indian should refrain from passing threats.
Commenting on the Karachi operation, Sher Ali said the ongoing operation in Karachi was not against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), but against insurgents who were working to destabilise Pakistan. He said that at least Rs 2 billion were seized from Sharjeel Memon. “Why the authorities have halted the probe in the matter?” he questioned.
