Nisar urges Sindh govt to act on DG Rangers' recommendations
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday urged the Sindh government to act on recommendations submitted by the DG Sindh Rangers regarding crime and terror financing in Karachi.
Defending a claim by DG Rangers Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar that Rs.230 billion worth of black money is generated annually from Karachi, Nisar hoped that the recommendations would not be turned into a ‘major issue’.
"The (DG Rangers) has given some recommendations to the Apex Committee, which is headed by the chief minister who has formed a committee to examine them," he said.
"The DG Rangers did not say anything unlawful. He gave their input to the Apex Committee in light of his experience after one year of the Karachi operation. I am hopeful that the provincial government will work on these recommendations,” he said.
Nisar commended the work carried out by Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar and said that he had left his mark in a very short period of time.
“If the government implements his recommendations, the situation in Karachi will improve further,” he said.
Nisar said that the killers of former MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq would soon be brought to justice.
"Our cooperation with Britain's Home Office and London Metropolitan Police is progressing rapidly. There is only one objective to this: to bring the murderers of Dr Imran Farooq to justice," he said.
