Army chief turns 59

RAWALPINDI – Army Chief General Raheel Sharif turned 59 years old on Tuesday.
Born on June 16, 1956 in Quetta, General Sharif attended the Pakistan Military Academy and was commissioned into the 6th Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment in 1976. On November 27, 2013, Raheel Sharif was appointed as the 15th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
His eldest brother, Major Shabbir Sharif, was declared as the martyr of Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 by Pakistan and received Nishan-e-Haider posthumously. General Sharif is the nephew of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti, another Nishan-e-Haider recipient, who was declared as the martyr of Indo-Pakistan War of 1965.
In 2013, Gen Raheel Sharif was conferred with Nishan-e-Imtiaz (military).
The army chief launched operation Zarb-e-Azb, pledging to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the state.
Twitterati have taken to the social media platform to celebrate the birthday of General Raheel Sharif. “Happy birthday to the real hero of Pakistan, a great gift for nation, what General Raheel Sharif has given is the success in Operation Zarb-e-Azb”.
