MQM stages NA walkout over Asif’s statement
ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged a walkout from the National Assembly in protest to a statement made by Federal Minister Khawaja Asif.
MQM leader Asif Hasnain said his party would not return until Khawaja Asif apologises for his statement.
According to reports Khawaja Asif had said on the National Assembly floor that only those who migrated from Ludhiana and Jalandhar were genuine Mohajirs.
On Tuesday the MQM’s Coordination Committee had demanded that Khawaja Asif apologise to the Mohajir community for insulting and using foul language against them on the floor of National Assembly.
MQM leader Farooq Sattar had said that Khawaja Asif had hurt the sentiments of the Mohajir community who had sacrificed for the creation of Pakistan.
Talking to Geo News on Tuesday MQM chief Altaf Hussain said he could no longer lead the party after witnessing ‘the silence’ that followed Khawaja Asif’s statement in the National Assembly.
“It is enough, now I cannot lead,” he told Geo News, adding that he was disappointed over the silence of entire nation. “The whole assembly became a silent spectator when Khawaja Asif ridiculed us,” he added.
