Abid Sher Ali surprised over Karachi loadshedding
FAISALABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Saturday expressed his surprise over power loadshedding in Karachi despite the continuous 650MW supply to K-Electric on daily basis.
Chairing a meeting at Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO)’s office after having Sehri here, he said the country was facing a shortfall of 6,000MW of electricity and could plunge into darkness if burdened with any more additional demand.
Despite the state minister’s claim of overcoming the electricity loadshedding to a certain extent, a sudden power breakdown marred the meeting in the halfway.
He said that the national power demand has touched 21,500MW while the electricity generation was hovering at around 15,000MW.
Commenting over power loadshedding in Karachi, Sher Ali said the supply of 650MW to K-Electric has been maintained despite the end of an agreement with the power company. He expressed his surprise over ongoing power loadshedding in the port city even with the continuous supply from the centre.
Speaking about PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s recent ‘anti-military’ diatribe, the state minister said the armed forces of the country were busy in Operation Zarb-e-Azb and any such statement cannot disrupt the National Action Plan (NAP).
