Pakistan tops list of countries observing decrease in terror attacks
INP
WASHINGTON – Pakistan has topped the list of countries that observed decrease in terror attacks according to the 2014 report issued by the US State Department.
The report acknowledged Pakistan army’s success in operation against all the banned terrorist outfits, including the Taliban and Haqqani network. It said that Pakistan saw the maximum decrease in terror attacks.
According to the international media, US State Department has released the report which says that 95 countries of the world faced terror attacks during 2014. Overall increase in the number of terrorist attacks was 35 per cent while the number of deaths increased by 81 per cent. Iraq and Afghanistan topped the list where terrorist attacks increased, while Pakistan topped the list of countries where number of terror attacks decreased.
Though the report says that sectarian and terrorist attacks have not ended in Pakistan, yet the decrease is quite visible. It also acknowledged Pakistan’s success in the Operation Zarb-e-Azb, and also gave Pakistan the credit for targeting all the banned outfits. It is pertinent to mention here that the United States has been repeatedly blaming Pakistan of playing favorites while going after the terrorists and even of ‘double gaming’. However, the report published by the US State Department is a proof that even the US now acknowledges Pakistan’s firm resolve to end the menace of terrorism from the region.
Last week, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asim Bajwa had also tweeted about the success achieved by the army in Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He said that a total of 2,763 terrorists had been killed during one year of the operation, while 837 terrorist hideouts had been destroyed by the military.
