Heatwave deaths are not K-Electric’s problem: Khursheed Shah
ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah said on Wednesday that, "while we are creating hue and cry about Karachi’s heatwave deaths, Khawaja Asif has bought his accounting books."
Regretting the loss of lives in Karachi, Khursheed Shah addressing the National Assembly today said collective efforts should be made to address the problems of the people of Karachi as it is not just K-Electric’s problem, rather it is Pakistan’s problem.
The leader of opposition went on to say that the federal government should take over K-Electric, “we will support them.”
Shah added that no problems will be solved by everyone criticizing and blaming each other.
Responding to statements made by Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif in assembly today, he said that talking about calculations and accounting today amounts to rubbing salt on people’s wounds.
He added that today is the day everyone should drop all accounting and work together to resolve issues.

Naveed Qamar of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) said that the government should seriously address the issue of load shedding throughout the country including Karachi where the severe heatwave has so far claimed the lives of 1250 people. He said the concerned authorities should take necessary action against the K-Electric for failing to provide electricity to its consumers.

Asad Umer said the government has failed to deliver on its promises regarding power sector reforms. He said professional and honest people should be deputed to bring improvement in the sector. He said the federal government should pay attention to resolve the issue of power outages in Karachi at a time when the city has hardly been hit by harsh weather conditions.
Abdul Rashid Godil
Abdul Rashid Godil said that Karachi is the economic hub of the country and the federal government cannot remain oblivious to its problems. He regretted the prolonged power outages in different cities and asked the government to find a permanent solution to the power crisis.
