FIA allowed to shift Axact CEO, 4 others suspects to Islamabad

KARACHI: A court in Karachi on Wednesday permitted authorities to shift five suspects in the Axact fake degree case, including the company's CEO Shoaib Shaikh, to Islamabad.

During the hearing at the District and Sessions court South today, a lawyer for the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) maintained in court that cases of fraud, sale of fake degrees and money laundering have been lodged against the company in Islamabad.

The FIA lawyer argued five suspects in the case need to be produced in the federal capital for the hearing.

Accepting the FIA’s request, the court allowed the investigative authority to shift five suspects including Axact CEO Shoaib Shaikh, Zeeshan Ahmed, Zeeshan Anwar, Mohammad Sabir, and Waqas Atiq to Islamabad.

The Karachi-based IT firm became the focus of a criminal case last month when a New York Times investigative story accused the company of reaping million of dollars by selling bogus degrees online.
