Minister for turning ‘Seerat chairs’ into centres of excellence

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday emphasised upon the need to convert ‘Seerat chairs’ in public sector universities into centers of excellence for producing a body of knowledge to meet challenges of modern life in the light of Seerat of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He stated this while chairing the meeting of a steering committee for establishment of ‘Seerat chairs’ in public sector universities. Renowned scholar Dr Anis Ahmed, Professor Dr Sahibzada Sajidur Rahman and officials of the Higher Education Commission attended the meeting.

Ahsan said that Islamic injunctions provided solutions for all the times but “we failed to apply them to the changing needs”. He said that these Seerat chairs would work on modern challenges to correlate them with the Islamic perspective to promote harmony, peace and development.

He said that the Seert chairs project would have clear performance indicators to produce research.
