People mentioned in BBC report currently in UK: FIA

KARACHI: Sindh Federal Investigation Agency Director General Shahid Hayat on Saturday said all the people mentioned in BBC report against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were in the UK.

He said the government has sought help from the British government. He said action would be taken after receiving evidence from the UK.

He said the Axact case has not come to an end yet as supplementary challan has been produced in the court. He said action in Axact case was carried out in accordance with the law. Hayat said corruption of billions of rupees was found in KMC’s Education Department where millions are paid in salaries to ghost employees.

He said that there were several ghost employees appointed in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation who were receiving salaries sitting at home while their families are also on the payroll.

The DG presented KMC employee Saleem Khan, who confessed that 21 members of his family, including his 64-year old mother-in-law are receiving salaries from KMC.
“It was our duty to collect monthly income from different towns and submit to Director Education Mansoor Mirza who then used to divide the money among high ranking officials,” he confessed.

Shahid Hayat said that FIA is also investigating senior officials of KMC regarding the matter.
