President calls for strict action against corrupt elements

ISLAMABAD – President Mamnoon Hussain has called for strict action against corrupt elements.

Addressing a seminar on Accountability and Good Governance in Islamabad on Monday, he said influential figures involved in corrupt practices should be given exemplary punishment. He directed the concerned departments to gear up efforts against corruption.

The president called for restructuring of public sector departments for better service delivery. He said that the restructuring of these departments will bring transparency and restore confidence of people. He said that the federal and provincial governments should also introduce e-governance to cut their expenditures and ensure early solution of problems faced by the common man.

Earlier, in his remarks, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said latest technology should be used to improve governance. He said that foreign investment has increased in Pakistan due to bold decision of the government to eliminate terrorism. He said that the alleviation of poverty and unemployment will help address the issues of extremism and terrorism. The adviser expressed the confidence that the effective policies adopted by the government will help achieve five to six percent growth rate.
