Sindh Assembly imposes ban on live media coverage
KARACHI: A ban has been placed on live media coverage of events in the Sindh Assembly on Monday owing to security concerns.
Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani said that all the passes possessed by media representatives have been revoked.
The assembly received multiple security threats, added Durrani.
In April, a private media channel’s team member entered the assembly hiding a gun in his clothing.
The move reportedly was made by the media team to expose the vulnerable security condition of the house.
The team was later arrested from the premises after the media representative took out the weapon and placed it before the speaker.
Earlier in the same month, a bag had caused a stir in an assembly session, making lawmakers think that it might contain a bomb. Speaker Durrani had asked the Sindh Assembly staff to put the bag in water, which was later known to belong to Sharmila Farooqi.
