Senator Ilyas Bilour elected as GIDC body convener unanimously

ISLAMABAD: Members of the Senate Special Committee on Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) Bill-2015 Wednesday elected Ilyas Ahmad Bilour as Convener of the body unanimously.
Saleem Mandviwala proposed name of Ilyas Bilour as convener of the committee, which was seconded by Mohsin Aziz. While the name of Lt. General (Retd.) Abdul Qayyum was floated by Muhammad Zafarullah Khan Dhandla, endorsed by Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo. Later, Abdul Qayyum withdrew his name voluntarily.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Senators Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, Lt. General (Retd.) Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Zafarullah Khan Dhandla, Saleem Mandiviwala, Muhammad Ali Khan Saif, Mohsin Aziz and Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo.
On May 20, 2015, both the National Assembly and Senate had passed the bill to collect GIDC. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A) had expressed some reservations over the bill.
The government believed that the bill was necessary to collect GIDC for maintaining and improving the existing gas infrastructure across the country.
