Mushahid Lauds Pakistan as “Honest Broker” for Bridging Differences between Iran and US

Skopje: Senior parliamentarian Mushahid Hussain Sayed has highlighted Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in promoting regional peace, saying the country received international recognition at a major global conference for its efforts to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States.

Speaking at an international conference organized by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in North Macedonia, Senator Mushahid said Pakistan’s peace initiatives and mediation efforts were widely appreciated by international leaders and delegates attending the event.

The conference brought together speakers of parliament, lawmakers, political leaders, think-tank representatives and opinion-makers from 22 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Among the distinguished participants were the Speakers of the Parliaments of Tanzania and Malta, alongside senior government officials and international experts.

During the event, Senator Mushahid met with Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who praised Pakistan’s constructive role in hosting and facilitating peace talks between Iran and the United States.

According to Senator Mushahid, President Davkova acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Gulf region and expressed hope for the successful conclusion of ongoing negotiations.

In his address to the conference, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, a prominent UAE leader and former Speaker of the Arab Parliament, also commended Pakistan’s initiatives to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

Al Jarwan praised Islamabad’s role in facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington and acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution to efforts aimed at ending regional tensions and preventing further escalation.

Addressing delegates, Senator Mushahid said the world was witnessing an era of profound geopolitical transformation marked by uncertainty, instability and significant shifts in the global balance of power.

He argued that the ongoing conflict involving Iran had accelerated changes in the international system and was contributing to the gradual erosion of the Western-led global order.

“The world is passing through a historic transition characterized by turbulence and transformation,” he said, adding that many countries of the Global South were increasingly questioning what they perceived as unequal standards in international politics.

Briefing conference participants on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, Senator Mushahid described Islamabad as an “honest broker” working to bridge differences between Iran and the United States.

He expressed optimism about the prospects of a peaceful settlement, suggesting that meaningful progress had been achieved and that a negotiated outcome appeared increasingly attainable.

Turning to broader global developments, the senator highlighted the growing influence of China on the international stage, describing the country's rise as a major geopolitical reality.

He argued that recent developments in US-China relations reflected changing global dynamics and demonstrated increasing recognition of China’s economic, technological and strategic capabilities.

According to Senator Mushahid, competition between major powers would continue to shape international affairs, particularly in areas such as science, technology and economic development.

During his speech, he also referred to the historical and cultural links between North Macedonia and South Asia through two internationally recognized figures: Alexander the Great and Mother Teresa.

Recalling his participation as head of Pakistan’s delegation at Mother Teresa’s funeral in Kolkata in 1997, Senator Mushahid said Pakistan has always valued interfaith harmony and respected the contributions of religious minorities to national development.

He emphasized that tolerance, coexistence and mutual respect among different faiths remained important principles of Pakistani society and foreign policy.

The conference concluded with discussions on global peace, dialogue among civilizations, conflict prevention and the promotion of tolerance as essential foundations for international stability. Participants underscored the importance of diplomacy and multilateral cooperation in addressing contemporary global challenges and fostering a more peaceful and inclusive international order. - Pakistan Today
