President confers awards to ISI deputy director Naveed Sadiq, Brig Ramay, and Col Farooq

Pakistan Day, an investiture ceremony customarily took place at the Aiwan-e-Sadar, Islamabad, to recognise the bravery, efforts, and achievements of several Pakistani citizens in different fields.

During the ceremony, Deputy Director Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Muhammad Naveed Sadiq received the Sitara-e-Shujaat (Star of Bravery) — the second-highest civil award for bravery bestowed by the country.

Muhammad Naveed Sadiq was given the award for his services as the Commanding Officer of the Counter-Terrorism Multan wing. During his service, he successfully led several operations against terrorist outfits, including Daesh.

Brigadier Rana Arfan Shakeel Ramay and Lieutenant Colonel Farooq Shahbaz received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for winning the Karkey case and saving Pakistan from a $1.2 billion penalty.

The President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, presented the awards.

The Sitara-e-Shujaat is usually given to Pakistani citizens, such as civilians, human rights defenders, military or law enforcement officials, for their bravery and contributions to the national interest of the country.

Meanwhile, the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) — the third-highest honour and civilian award in the State of Pakistan, recognises individuals who have made an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of Pakistan, world peace, cultural or other significant public endeavours.

While the awards seeks to recognise gallantry contributions, it is also awarded posthumously by the president annually on Pakistan Day.
