Bill on accountability soon, says Gilani

ISLAMABAD: The government will take stern measures to end corruption and introduce a bill on accountability soon, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Monday.

The prime minister made the comments while addressing reporters after a briefing at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Gilani said the government would ensure “continuity of the system and make it more effective”.

He said he visited the FBR office to ensure policies launched by outgoing Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen remained in place.

The prime minister also dispelled the impression that Tareen had been removed from his post. He said the minister had rather resigned because of a “clash between personal and official engagements”. He said Tareen would regularly advise the government in financial matters through the Economic Advisory Council.

Referring to the recent birth of a child in a rickshaw stuck in a traffic jam, Gilani said his comments had been taken out of context by the media. He apologised in case the statement had hurt somebody. app
